World Cultural Council Special Recognition Award

World Cultural Council

Many thanks to the World Cultural Council for giving me a special recognition award for my work, which comes with a SGD$5000 research grant.

Here is my citation:

Asst Prof Juliana Chan (Science)

Asst Prof Chan engineers targeted hybrid polymeric-lipid nanoparticles that cling to artery walls and slowly release medicine. In her latest work, she has grown 3D capillary beds in microfluidic devices towards applications in tissue engineering and drug testing. In 2013, Asst Prof Chan was awarded the Elite Nanyang Assistant Professorship from NTU and will teach at both the School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering and the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, jointly setup by NTU and Imperial College London. A recipient of the Singapore Youth Award 2013, Asst Prof Chan founded the Asian Scientist Magazine in 2011. The Magazine has to date produced 2,500 stories.

I’m truly excited to get to meet Professor Sir Paul Nurse, 2001 Nobel Laureate in Medicine, who will be receiving the 2013 Albert Einstein World Award of Science at the same award ceremony for his amazing discoveries on the cell cycle.
